It is true, as one of the participants put it [at our meeting], that when a synagogue is burned it is France that is humiliated, that when a Jew is assaulted it is France that is assaulted. In our Republic, a secular Republic, we have the obligation of respect, tolerance and dialogue in regard to the freedom of thought, the freedom of expression, and religious freedom.
