President Zapatero, [handwritten:] Dear Friend,

I was very shocked to learn of the terrible, tragic accident resulting in the derailment of an underground train in Valencia, claiming very many lives.

In these painful circumstances, I want to express to you personally and on behalf of the French people my heartfelt condolences in this ordeal.

Please be kind enough to convey my deepest sympathy and solidarity to the bereaved./.
