Lounge of the Portraits
Under the Second Empire, the eight portraits of Europe's Heads of
State (Napoleon III's contemporaries) replaced the portraits of the imperial family hung by Murat. The salon also contains a tapestry from the Manufacture de la Savonnerie (State
tapestry-works) based on a drawing by Saint-Ange and woven to the specifications of the Duc d'Angoulême.
The room is furnished with a harmonious collection of Louis XVI
giltwood items covered with Lyon silk with gold flowery motifs on a blue background.
Intimate official breakfasts, luncheons or dinners (for no more than 8) are held in this salon.
The Council of Ministers (Cabinet) used to meet in this salon under Napoleon III, and subsequently from 1879 to 1940.
